Prompted by an article about this building by Frank Gehry in the NY Times...
...I decided to take a little internet tour of other buildings by Frank Gehry.
Dancing House - Prague
Same building...
The Guggenheim
Gehry Tower - Hanover (Germany? Delaware? Micronesia? Dunno. Hanover.)
That's just awesome.
Weisman Art Something or Other.I can't wait to have a few free moments to roam around Boston exploring the architecture. I've totally forgotten that living in a city allows such little pleasures.
Incidentally, this will be the building I will be working in this summer. (Not cool.)
A hearty dose of acid should make it just right.

Oops! My comment just vanished in space...Am typing it again. The pics are very interesting. THe State Centre reminds me of an open book or a furled scroll.

There were some office buildings by Gehry in the "new town" part of Duesseldorf. I think they're all crap--yeah, they can be interesting, and oooh every window had to be individually made to fit the curves of the walls--but they look absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, I have no taste or background in architecture, we all know this. But I'm convinced that Gehry is just pulling an emperor's-new-clothes scam.

I dunno. I looked up the Dusseldorf buildings, which assume is this:

...And they look awesome.
The way I feel is this: In Super Mario Brothers world, or something like it, you will have these dancing mushrooms, dancing trees, swaying buildings, whistling tulips...all sort of bouncing to the music. I feel like if you just did an immediate freeze frame, it would look like the Dusseldorf shot.
Clearly I have no background in architecture either, but I'm not sure what else to go on besides the fact that I like looking at them.
I agree--the buildings definitely belong in Toontown from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
And I myself am madly in love with all sorts of Art Deco/Art Nouveau style buildings with their crazy stylized friezes or reliefs or whatevers. I will have to take some pictures around town--Philly has some great ones.
Also I am very fond of things like this: http://www.muar.ru/ve/2003/moscow/index_e.htm

It's not the critic who has the harshest words: it's Frank Gehry himself. "When a building's finished. I don't like it. I want to change it ( Documentary by Sydney Pollack)
He's unconventional, non conformist trying to blend art and commerce.
