I really love articles
like this one, where an author takes a common, everyday object we never consider, and tell glorious, exciting stories about their past and the rise and fall of passions over them. I think there was a fantastic book about Salt that came out several years ago, or a book like "The Orchid Thief"...today, an article about the Penny. Just thought I'd share. Good stuff.

I think we've discussed this, but I really love books about one subject: Salt, The Orchid Thief, Color: A Natural History of the Palette (an amazing book, i think you'd love it), The Earth Moved: On the Remarkable Acheivements of Earthworms, The Omnivore's Dilemna (in a way), Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, and on and on. I figure if I read enough books that go so in depth about one particular thing, I will have an enormous body of knowledge (if spotty while the writers are catching up with a whole world of topics).
The Remarkable Achievement of Earthworms. Awesome.
Y'all forgot "Cod" clearly one of the greatest books ever written about the subject of Cod. Chinaman, I'll hit your "I've changed" topic tom.
