Funny!!

I find it intensely intriguing how much trouble is being stirred up by this Sanjaya thing. I've actually never seen American Idol before (although I did see 5 minutes of it playing in Bangalore while I was sitting in Karen's Living room/bedroom/dining room/prayer room)...but everywhere I turn, there seems to be all sorts of hullaballoo over Sanjaya, an American Idol contestant with controversial hair. Here's an example...(actually, a google search for Sanjaya brings up three news stories, including the Washington Post.)
So, I went to Wikipedia to read up on it: I think the jackass British judge said he would not come back if Sanjaya won, Howard Stern was starting a campaign to get Sanjaya to win, and there's a group called "Vote for the Worst" who are out to try and destroy American Idol who have tried to rally the troops to make him win, and there are "commentators" (whatever the fuck THAT means) who think that a Sanjaya victory would mean the demise of American Idol. (YAY!!!) Apparently the judges are trying pretty hard to do anything they can to get him to lose, and even the host is apparently mocking him. So basically, the institution of American Idol wants him gone.

Truth be told: Sanjaya actually sucks really bad. I Youtubed it for your pleasure. He really does suck. I don't quite understand how this even got to American Idol...are they all this mediocre?

A few things:
1) If for some reason you think that American Idol is good...just explain it to me in a comment...because what the fucking hell?!

2) American Idol sucks for a lot of reasons, even if I have never seen it. Primarily because it is the most powerful television show on television today, and I believe it's also the most powerful television show in history. By powerful, I mean that it is one of the highest rated shows of all time, and has consistently been used as a weapon to obliterate any and all competition. Whenever Fox perceives that a new show is a threat, they simply move American Idol to that night. Then everyone watches American Idol by overwhelming numbers, and the new show dies. Because of business conditions, television shows generally only get 1 to 2 weeks to perform. If they fail in that first or second shot, they get pulled forever. (Example: Remember that show "Emily's Reasons Why Not?" Probably not, but you may have seen tons and tons of advertisements for it. It is the Heather Graham sitcom that I recall seeing all over television, billboards, and the internet...I knew about the show for MONTHS before it came out. Millions of dollars were spent. It was the next Matthew McConaughey...with longer arms of course. And what happened? One episode aired. It didn't do so well. It was cancelled on the basis of that first episode.)

So...if Fox has a deathray, super disintegrator gun like American Idol (which costs basically pennies next to a real show)that they can direct towards any show they want...then Fox can do whatever the fuck it wants. (Wasn't there a time, maybe now, where American Idol aired three times a week, and basically ran year round?) And no one wants that. And more importantly, what happens to shows like Arrested Development and Scrubs?

3) Clearly the media hype is feeding more attention to AI, and I am certainly feeding into this hyperactive attention towards this show...and I'm aware of this.

4) ..but Idol can't get much bigger. So wouldn't it be awesome to watch American Idol crash and burn? I think it would be. And then America would have a moment like that one sunny day when Truman Burbank burst out of the enormous dome containing Seahaven, and America turns off the Truman Channel.
Help Truman take that first step.

So here's the real bitch of it....

I still don't want to watch that show. So does anyone know how voting works? How? When? All that stuff? Someone out there just tell me because this post has made me tired and I don't want to look it up or have to figure it out.
