MLK Day

I really don't make much out of this holiday, in the same way that I generally don't have much of a response to Black History Month. But then again, I barely respond to Christmas and Thanksgiving either (and when I do, it's really just about food.)

In any case, I was looking through some pictures of Dr. King, and as usual, I always feel somewhat in awe of seeing actual pictures of what he has done, and the way in which he accomplished it. And then, as usual, my mind started to drift away towards the more morbid aspects of racism in America...so I began doing searches. Here is what I uncovered. I really have no commentary or purpose in showing these pictures except just to quote Shakespeare that "What's past is prologue."

1919 Nebraska Lynching
1920 Georgia

1936
1920 (?) Duluth Georgia

And then, just for fun, here's a picture from last year and the actual captions.

I'm totally not being a negative nancy today either. I think MLK's accomplishments are incredible, and am glad that he actually has a national holiday. These pictures are just the incidental things I stumbled across while reflecting back.
