I am terrified by the complacency and confidence people have about the upcoming election. Everyone just seems too assured. All the columnists are talking as if the election is over, and it just seems like an enormous set-up for a monstrous lesson in the unpredictability of American politics, race, the culture wars, the reliability of the youth vote, the wrongness of polling or whatever else. Yes, Obama is up. Yes, the polls look good. Yes, people finally appear to be rejecting fearmongering and divide and conquer politics. Yes, the GOP appears to be a sinking ship.
But no, I do not think this election is in the bag. With stakes this high, I cannot be at ease until it's over. There is no amount of polling that will make this Election Day feel like anything but anxiety. I hope the urgency remains and I will be extremely tense until this is over. And I think I will cry no matter the outcome.

Looks like Sears is having some rockin' Black Friday sales on TVs. May be the time to buy.
