So, this changes from time to time. I try something, I fail, I try something else, I fail.
Someday, something will not fail.

Did it.
My computer has been going nuts (ie. erasing all of my bookmarks and clearing all of my internet history randomly, not recognizing the existence of a battery, lagging and freaking out.)
So I bought a Mac.
And I don't know how to use it. I'm constantly stressed out by the thing. Is this going to get easier? Is there somewhere that explains very basic concepts? (Like what replaces the concept of a right click?)
most other keyboard shortcuts from Windows: replace alt with command (apple button).
Also, if you go to system settings (lightswitch thing in the dock), and go to keyboard/mouse, you can change around a lot of the keyboard short cuts.
I still use command + tab a lot to switch programs (just like alt + tab from windows) and use command + Q to quit programs. Get to know the F11 button (move all windows) -- it comes in crazy handy.
This is Apple's switching website: http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/
Here's another good one: http://lifehacker.com/software/mac/hack-attack-a-guide-for-switching-to-a-mac-224674.php
Trust me. It gets a lot better. My two favorite things? F11 for moving all the windows and getting to the desktop (and then putting everything back) and vertical scrolling of pages using two fingers on the track pad. I miss those two things so badly every time I use a PC.
good luck man -- if you have more questions, email me.
Haubs: Awesome. Thanks. I couldn't do anything...I would just sorta bumble around and wonder what I'm supposed to do to close or open a window or something.
1) I loved my Toshiba and IBM computers, but I just found that time took its toll on them quite viciously. The Toshiba just died violently. The IBM was such a pansy computer it couldn't take a full mug of coffee to the keyboard. (heh.)
2) What do you mean? What do you call Half-Life 2?
I disagree. Every movie/video I ever watched on my Dell I have no problem watching on my mac. You just need the right combination of codecs and whatnot. I'll email 'em to you tomorrow.

right click = hold down control + click

That was hilarious.

I'll trade you your Mac for the laptop I bought for dad (which he hasn't reclaimed yet).
Also, for your computing purposes, there's absolutely no need for you to have a Mac over a PC. Good work.

3) Specs: 2.16GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard drive.
4) Cost: About the same as a Thinkpad at $1,099.
5) Satisfaction: Your mother.
6) Enjoy Dad's laptop. Or at least give it back to him.
OK. So far, I fucking hate this thing.

Dick. Ok. So those websites helped a lot. But, I still can't get my movies to run. Mr. Haubs?
Audio/Video media is going to be an endless headache for you from now on. Get used to it.
