Once.

Watch it.Seriously.

It's less than an hour and a half. It will hit you like a ton of feathers. In a good way. Because of its stark (blissful) simplicity...saying anything else would just be unhelpful.

Edit: For those of you who actually take my (and my brother's) advice and watch this movie, I have also included the mass released DVD cover for this movie below. Again, above is the original poster, and below is the mass released DVD cover. There is one crucial difference which my brother (and now I) find hideously irritating, given the true soul of the film. (And no it's not the changed color of his scarf and her jacket...which now that I notice it...is very bizarre. What's wrong with these people? What marketing major in college suggested THAT one? Probably the same person who suggested the groan-inducing lameness.)

About goddamn time. Now you understand why, the day after I watched the rental, I braved holiday Woodruff to buy the DVD and soundtrack? BTW, the entire soundtrack is up on http://www.kusoyaro.com/audio. Yeah!

Mom burst into the family room to talk to me about something during that early scene in the music store, and I replied with a loud, "NGGHHHHHHHHHH!", both hands thrust out, palms out.

The last shot of the movie is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever scene.

Also, now you see what is so annoying about the edited DVD cover art?

I think the music store scene, the scene at the piano in the studio, and the first song recorded in the studio, and the first song he sings at night alone on the street all made the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up.

And, I didn't think the last scene of the movie was heartbreaking. I think it's "acheworthy" but I don't think it is heartbreaking, but bittersweet.

You also can't spell.

I trust you DID notice which cover I chose to post.

I actually started my list of my favorite scenes with just the studio recording in mind...and then I almost named the entire movie. I usually HATE hearing music for the first time.

If you like the music, the dude is the lead singer of the Irish band The Frames (no idea if they're any good). Also, he and the girl put out an album of their stuff.

Neither he nor the girl had ever acted before, but they were both good friends and had played together a lot. It's pretty stunning how they randomly had so much chemistry onscreen.

What, you don't think I watched the DVD Extras afterwards?

Actually, now that I hear the music without watching it...it's surprising to me how much the memory of the movie contributes to the music. I don't know what I would think if someone just gave me this song.

Uh. just go buy the albums, and then put them up on your FTP. Thanks.

(The album by the pair of them got really good reviews from listeners...)

I'll get right on that.
