My investment bears fruit.

Pardon the bad (and slightly inaccurate) pun.

But at the same time...SUCK IT!

What did I get? On the left...
Red Russian Kale
Turnips (and Turnip Greens)
Carrots
Beets (and Beet Greens)

And on the right...
Strawberries
Spinach

Yay! Ok....off to eat.

P.S. Anyone interested in a Nike+ running wager? Like, a nice steak or a trip to visit the winner, or something potentially humiliating? First to 20 miles? First to 100? Most in 30 days? I don't want to lose momentum - Plus, it's fun.

Do you even know what to DO with turnips and beets?

I bought a bottle of taragon wine vinegar years ago so I could make homemade pickled beets, and to this day I have yet to purchase or pickle a beet.

I had borsche at a Ukranian festival last year. It was good. Make that.

I don't think I have enough beets to pickle them (which I'm beeting you saw in "Beet It" on Good Eats. You can see them all right there. I'm not going to pickle 5 beets. And I'm certainly not going to attempt to make 5 beet borscht.

I think I'm going to do a roast beet and goat cheese salad...

As for the turnips...no idea.

Yeah dude, although you're going to be at a major advantage....I'm gonna be in Switzerland, Turkey, and India for those 2 months starting August 20. I plan to keep running, but I do wonder how possible it will be to compete with a strapping young Slav like yourself.

We could just do a long-term one like, 100 miles...which should take at least a couple of months for me.

How much do you generally run?

we can just wait til you get back. the other option is to join a challenge wherein we aren't competing against each other (for instance, a 300 mile challenge by new years - you either do it or you FAIL).

i am an idiot - i didn't scroll down to see that you wrote more than one paragraph. I guess we agree on the distance term concept. My weekly mileage this summer has varied between 15 and 35 miles per week. I'd assume that I'd hover in the 20 mile area in the fall.
